Artificial Intelligence - (A.I.) A field of computer science that attempts to develop computer systems that can mimic or simulate human thought processes and actions. ASCII - American Standard Code for Information Interchange - An agreed upon industry standard of characters which represent upper and lower case text, symbols, and non-printing characters for communicating data and information at all levels of information interchange. Program - a set of instructions that tell the computer what to do in a sequence of actions that the computer interprets based on a set of rules that it uses to decode each line in an instruction set, which it executes. Ram - a temporary storage area that holds a program and data that is currently being processed. It is only active as long as the power in running through it. Once you shut your computer off, the information or data is lost. Server - a computer that is setup to be used as a means to draw information and resources that include other computers and their data, applications, hardware, which include, printers, modems, and fax machines. It is like an octopus with the big head as a server and its tentacles are attached to several computers and hardware devices. Parallel port - a socket that provides a connection for transmitting data eight bits at a time over a cable with eight separate data lines. Serial port - a socket that provides a connection for transmitting data one bit at a time. Also called an RS-232C port. SCSI port (Small Computer System Interface) A socket designed to provide a connection for between one and seven peripheral devices. Single-user license - a software license that limits the use of software to one user at a time. Shareware - Copyrighted software marketed under a try-before-you-buy
policy that allows you to use a software package for a trial period. After
the trial period you should send in a registration fee. Usually the
software has the first level of the game only on its trial version or if
it is an application, some of the functionality is limited such as, no
save option. So, if you create a picture you can't save it and use
it.
